brand visuals | design system

This project visualizes the complexity of passwords as 3D shapes. These generated forms serve as the foundation for a speculative modular brand visual system for the password manager, Bitwarden. The project was created as part of a motion design diploma at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

Complexity

Translating the complexity of the password string into the visual complexity of the shape

Encryption

To create a graphical layer on top of the generated shapes, we looked into one of the key aspects of storing passwords securely - encryption - and translated the key idea of reordering visually, creating a grid-like pattern without adding anything new. Visually translating encrpyton.

Rotation

The rotation reflects how a password stays consistent while altering its appearance each time it’s used. The speed is determined by mapping the password along a keyboard, forming a path with varying distances between letters, which influences the rotation speed. The degree of rotation is defined by a hash function, acting as a seed.

Brand Spot

For the brand spot, we dive deep into the password manager, where we find a multitude of unique passwords, all stored in a safe and stable grid.

Brand Tool

The systems-based approach to brand visuals gives us the opportunity to not only create a set of visuals, but to think in the context of a brand visual tool that allows us to create a visual for any aspect ratio and length. All in a consistent visual style, without repetition.
